HVO+ vs other Biodiesel
Even if the HVO+ is considered as a second-generation Biodiesel, it has nothing to compare with other Biodiesel. The HVO+ is a drop-in fuel that can be blended in any proportion with regular Diesel or even put at 100% in any existing engine without any modifications.
Unlike FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester), which is a 1st generation Biodiesel, the HVO+:
- is not limited to 7% maximum blending ratio
- does not create any harm to the engine parts
- does not attack rubber and plastic parts of the fuel system
- does not create a microbial growth in the fuel tank
Moreover, the HVO+ does not need any additional maintenance like some other do.
HVO+ has a higher cetane number than FAME, up to 90 compared to 40. This means that the combustion is more efficient and it leads to:
- a quieter engine
- far less non-ignited fuel
- less emissions
- better performance
Higher cloud point
The HVO+ has a higher cloud point than FAME, it can be used in an environment with up to – 40°C compared to -5°C. This particularity gives the HVO+ superior cold weather performance, it can be used in any extreme weather condition.
Unlike FAME, the HVO+ does not increase the very toxic NOx emissions, in fact it decreases it.
